Saving Your Property From Dry Rot And Water Damages

Checking the fascia boards on your home or apartment can be an early indicator of dry rot beginning to appear in the structure. Visual inspections can be done. Look to see if the wood has lost it's original shape. Is the surface irregular, pieces of wood failing? Regular painting of the wood surface will help to shed the water from the wood, extending the life of the wood.

Dry rot and water damage is not good, and delay in repairs can be costly. Good maintenance of the building materials is the best solution in the prevention of dry rot and water damage. Ask a local contractor who specializes in these type of issues for their recommendations and suggestions.

Dry Rot Damage Continues To Grow in Apartment Community.

I've been a general contractor in Placerville, CA for several years. Before that I was a general Contractor in Cameron Park, and San Jose, CA. I have had a ton of experience with water damage, dry rot, mildew, mold, decay, and all that stuff thats ugly and dirty. I've seen dry rot in the early stages, the extreme stages and everything in between. Recently, I had the opportunity to go back to a job site that did not repair wood that was in need of repair. The owners chose to wait, and the problem got worse.

This video shows what can happen when nothing is done to correct a water damage problem. Dry Rot and Water damage will continue to decay the wood in the area.

Roof problem leads to dry rot in exterior siding and trim.

If your roof is leaking, even slightly, the problem will only get worse with time.
Sometimes it will be in the attic area, causing insulation and drywall problems. This can lead to mold, mildew, water damage or more. Other times the leak effects the exterior of the home. This can include siding, trim, and doors.
In the photo here, water got between the roof and siding above and ran down and behind the siding below.
If you need an evaluation of your water damage or dry rot, and you are near the Sacramento region, we are available for a no cost evaluation.
